Herb Stevenson is President/CEO of the Cleveland Consulting Group, Inc., where he focuses on organizations that recognize that business is not a problem to be solved. He employs the use of dialogic techniques such as focused conversations, critical incidents, and public conversations to enable communications that have meaning and lead to awareness and decisions with depth and breadth. He utilizes theories and techniques that address the tension within the dynamic equilibrium of organizations such as polarity management and zero point analysis. He applies visioning techniques that delve deeper into the soul of the organization than traditional visioning methods.
Herb has been a management consultant for over twenty years and a business
executive for over 25 years. For 15 years, he was Executive Vice President
with Young & Associates, Inc., Kent, Ohio, a management consulting firm
employing approximately 25 professional and staff personnel. While maintaining
a full-time client base, he designed and implemented the current corporate
structure; designed and implemented a national training program being used
by over 10% of the banks in the country; designed and developed a national
direct mail product division that created and sold video tape, computer
software, and printed materials. Prior to consulting, he was a bank executive
where he managed five offices and over seventy people. During his tenure
within banking, he specialized in business start-up and rapid growth.
He specializes in executive and board support through coaching or consulting, and diversity training. He supports executives and board members in strategic issues related to long term planning processes as well as in day-to-day operating procedures. He provides insight in executive and board processes to enhance relations by and between respective individuals. He has designed and successfully led large system changes including the turnaround of eight failing financial institutions as well as supported executives in massive reorganization planning and implementation processes. He has supported management consultants seeking to enhance/change their consulting focus or image, as well as how to return to industry from external consulting. Finally, he has supported individuals during their business start-up processes.
He has published 26 books, with four revised editions, including Executive Management Guide to An Effective Board of Directors and The Board of Directors, and over 200 industry articles. He is completing Paradox: A Gestalt Approach to Coaching and Consulting, as well as book chapters for inclusion in two professional anthologies: Paradox: A Gestalt Approach to Organization Development and The Handbook for Diversity Management. He is listed in seven Who’s Who lists including Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in American Law.
Herb is the founder of the Medicine
of Men program that is a one year program
that explores male maturity in today’s world. He facilitates men’s
circles designed to address the issues of being a man, including increasing
personal awareness.
As part of his Native American Indian heritage, he has been exploring indigenous healing practices for trauma related incidents. He teaches native healing practices in workshops around the country.
Herb received a BA in Economics and Communication at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a MA in Psychology with a diversity specialization from Cleveland State University.
Herb is on the professional staff/faculty of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, where he teaches in both the clinical and the organizational centers. He is co-chair of the Organization & Systems Development Becoming a Better Intervener (OSD-BBI) and the OSD Weekend programs. He is on the faculty of Cleveland State University where he teaches in the Master’s degree program in diversity management.
